Around the World in 21 Days-Part 21

A Day to Remember- Sydney Harbour Tour and Much, Much More

Ready for the harbour tour
Some toured the harbour, others toured the opera house and Royal Botanical Gardens, or climbed the harbour bridge. I couldn't wait to hear all the stories at the end of the day.

Fort Denison (foreground) is a former penal site and defensive facility occupying a small island located north of the Royal Botanical Gardens. The island is also known as Pinchgut. A private, behind-the-scenes tour of the Opera House (background) was a big hit.

Some of the group went on a botanical garden tour

Can you see the tiny figures on the top span by the Australian flag? Those are my tour mates.

A Day at the Races-The Melbourne Cup

Today was a BIG day in Australia; it was day of the running of the Melbourne cup. A group of us went to a local pub and bet our dinner money on the horses. The locals "dress to the nines" for this event, so there were lots of fancy dresses and fascinators on view.  We had a few winners among our group and lots of fun was had by all!

These young women are dressed for the race. The one on the left won a prize for best outfit.

A Fascinating Shopping Experience

Of course, being fascinator-less, we knew we had to get some. But before buying , there was a lot of trying on.
