Important to know is the fact that this Lodge is the only accommodation on the river with direct boat access. We were lucky...we drove the owner's 'four-by-four' to the river's edge where we promptly got on the boat and quickly set off on our day's adventure on the water. Those who stay in nearby Chilliwack have to be picked up and driven to the river to wait for their guide to launch the boat. At the end of a long day on the water, they repeat the process. Not us. While they were hauling out boats, we were enjoying a cold beer.
Our fishing adventures from the Fraser River sound like tall tales. That's because we caught twenty-three sturgeon over four days. One was an absolute monster at 8 feet and 44 inch around the belly. Wow, were they big!
Sturgeon are good fighting fish that are caught on a barbless hook. This means less injury for the fish but more work for the fisherman.
The best part of this great adventure? That's easy, it was traveling and having fun with my twenty-one year old son, Chris.
